Skipper Craig Hall, has sea water coursing through his veins. He is undoubtedly the most experienced big game fisherman available for charter in the UK, and he has brought that extensive experience to Black Moon. Craig loves every aspect of fishing. He has fished all over the world, covering everything from big game fishing to smaller fish, but his real passion is sportfishing. He describes it as the most extreme fishing, where you are pushed to your limits both mentally and physically.
Hailing originally from the small South African resort town of Warner Beach, he has been fishing his whole life and gained his skippers’ ticket at just 17 years old. Craig learned all about safety at sea during his time as a rescue boat skipper for the South African Navy. Later on, Craig concentrated on fishing for large sportfish, catching hundreds of tuna and marlin. When the opportunity arose to take part in the Exeter ICCAT Tagging programme, the lure of the largest and most expensive of the tuna species brought Craig to Falmouth.
His respect for the fish is evident, and he ensures a responsible and ethical approach to fishing. This isn’t about trophy hunting. If caught, big fish stay in the water, which keeps mortality rates low.

Our Skipper Charlie is a catch and release fisherman from a surfing and fishing village called St. Agnes on the North Coast of Cornwall, UK. He has been fishing his whole life and his father has been a keen fisherman in the local area for 50 years. Over the years he has owned several of his own boats and is a crazed bass lure angler at heart. His lifelong passion has been for fishing and exploring new ways to research and find new spots to fish. Charlie has also had great results when fishing in Ireland, Barbados and Indonesia.
Since starting working with Blackmoon Sportfishing in 2019, Charlie has qualified as a Day Skipper, completed his commercial endorsement, taken part in the Thunnus UK, Defra and Cefas blue fin tuna tagging programme, and even been part of filming for the upcoming Blue Planet series.
Born in 1960 in St. Agnes, Cornwall, Steve started fishing at the tender age of 4, going out with his father in a 10ft open boat that launched from the surf beach at St. Agnes on the rugged North Cornwall coast.
Today, Steve’s experience of boat fishing from a surf beach has given him a very healthy respect for the sea as well as the knowledge and ability to adapt to most sea conditions, and when to head for home and when to stay on dry land.
Over the last 54 years, he has maintained his love for fishing and has fished all over the world. So far, he has fished Tasmania, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Barbados, Senegal, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Zanzibar, Canary Islands, Texas, South Africa & Cape Verde islands.
Last year he was a key member of the Petina May fishing team for the Exeter University Bluefin Tuna tagging program, Thunnus UK. Steve has recently obtained his Day Skippers ticket to allow him to skipper the Petina May for the 2019 season. With his vast experience, Steve has a lot to offer to the Black Moon team.
Our durable, purpose-built luxury sports fishing boats ‘Black Moon’ and ‘Black Moon 2’ are a Rodman 1250 and 1040 respectively. Both are powered by twin Volvo engines, with their unique marine torque and rapid acceleration they are capable of getting to the fishing area faster than most. The engines are situated under the stern deck, so on both boats, it’s quiet enough to enjoy a conversation in the large, comfortable cabins if you so wish.
A day’s charter on either boat will be comfortable, safe and fun. Your safety is our primary concern, closely followed by doing everything we can for you to catch the fish of your dreams.

Whether you are a complete novice or an accomplished angler, Black Moon Sportfishing promises to make your day an unforgettable fishing experience. You and your Skipper will discuss beforehand what you would like to do and what his recommendations would be. Every trip is different; it’s a fully bespoke experience with one thing guaranteed – exciting fishing. It’s usually a full day’s charter, and we’re fully aware that it’s your day, so we’ll do everything in our power to make it a success. As with every fishing trip, success isn’t guaranteed and sometimes we return empty handed – this just makes us more determined to succeed the next day.
When you book with Black Moon Sportfishing, your Skipper will have a good chat with you planning your day to make sure you get the exact experience you want. The Boat is yours for the day, and we want you to have an experience you will never forget.
Black Moon is licensed to carry up to 10 guests.
We’ll provide everything you need for the fishing.
Our Skippers are highly experienced and well-respected in the sportfishing world. As you would expect, they take a responsible attitude, being conservation focussed and environmentally aware.
The Black Moon team fish all year around. Your skipper will advise which fish we can target, based on what is there to catch.
We have a relationship with a great local hotel – the Greenbank – located right on the water near the marina. For our guests staying there, we can pick you up from the Greenbank’s private pontoon in the morning and drop you back there on our return.
What’s included in the trip?
You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks, although we would recommend limited alcohol for safety reasons.
Cooking your catch
To be able to catch and eat your own fish is fantastic and, if you would like to do this, we can include it in your day. Your skipper can help you target pollock, bass, mackerel, sardines, whiting or cod. He can even help you cook it on the boat’s barbeque when you return too.
What we’d recommend you bring with you:
Family and friends are always welcome. We also provide charters for photographers and film crews.
At present it is not permitted for recreational fishermen to target bluefin tuna in the UK unless taking part in an official ICCAT tagging programme. Since 2018 the Black Moon team has been selected to fish for Bluefin tuna as part of the Thunnus UK bluefin tuna tagging programme – this programme is officially supported by ICCAT.
Taking part in the programme is an amazing experience and numerous fish have already been caught, tagged and released.
Outside of the tagging programme Black Moon do not target bluefin tuna.
